A Diamond in the Rough

A Diamond in the Rough

When a diamond has not been cut, it is difficult to see the beauty from within. When the diamond is polished and glistening, it becomes much easier to be seen. This past week many rough diamonds were discovered. Many nurse practitioners who work diligently behind the scenes, shined brightly through their collaboration of many talented leaders in one city.

Future nurse practitioner leaders gathered in New Orleans and were allowed to envision what lies ahead for this profession. Present organizational leaders spoke candidly to potential leaders and encouraged them to continue moving forward. As a member of AANP, I was encouraged by the many leaders who were warm and approachable.

The opportunity to engage with past and present leaders, lay members and students should encourage us to strive for our highest potential. I encourage you not to be afraid of leadership. Embrace your brightness, acknowledge your skills and allow others to see that you are a "diamond in the rough".
